Hot Tub Removal Temecula — Spa Haul-Off, Done in One Trip

An old spa is one of the heaviest things in your backyard, and it won’t fit down the curb. We drain it, disconnect it, cut what won’t fit through the gate, and haul the whole thing away — same day in most cases.

The Heaviest Thing in the Yard

A dry acrylic-and-fiberglass shell runs 500 to 800 pounds. Older redwood-and-foam models push past 1,000. It won’t come apart on its own, it won’t clear a standard side gate in one piece, and Temecula’s franchised trash company won’t take it at the curb.

That’s the job we do most weeks around the valley: an old spa that stopped getting used, went green over a summer, and now just sits there eating a corner of the patio. I’m Weston Molitor — I run a family crew based right here in Temecula, and between us we’ve pulled well over a thousand hot tubs and spas out of backyards across Murrieta, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, and the towns around them. You don’t need to figure out how to cut it up, where it can legally go, or how to muscle 700 pounds of shell around a tight gate without cracking your stucco. Tell us where it is. We handle the rest — that’s what spa removal Temecula homeowners keep calling us back for.

What Hot Tub Removal Costs in Temecula

We charge by volume — how much of the truck your junk fills — not by the hour. That keeps hot tub removal cost Temecula honest: you’re not paying for a slow afternoon. A spa on its own, once the shell is cut down, usually lands in the lower half of our load pricing.

Our truck bed runs roughly 12 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 4 feet high, so even a large swim spa fits once it’s broken down. A few things move the number up or down:
  • Access. A tub tucked behind a narrow gate, up a flight of stairs, or on a raised deck takes more hands and more time.
  • Install type. Freestanding is quickest. Partially buried, stone-surrounded, and fully built-in spas take longer to free and cut.
  • What’s stacked on it. Old covers, steps, decking boards, and the gazebo over the top can ride along in the same load.
Whatever the situation, you get a firm written price at the door before we start — no deposit to book, and no surprise add-ons after. See our full volume pricing guide for how loads are measured.

Why a Hot Tub Can’t Just Go to the Curb

People are often surprised they can’t set an old spa out with the trash. The City of Temecula contracts waste service to CR&R, and residents do get a couple of free bulky-item pickups a year — but those are for things a crew can lift by hand off the parkway, like a couch or a mattress. A hot tub is a different animal for three reasons:

Dead weight

Even drained, a shell can top half a ton. It’s not a two-person carry, and dropping it cracks driveways and breaks toes.

Live electrical

Spas run on 240-volt circuits. If yours is hardwired, the disconnect is a licensed electrician’s job, not the trash crew’s.

Non-curbside materials

The acrylic-and-foam shell isn’t accepted in your blue cart, and it won’t fit CR&R’s automated bins in one piece.
Local tip: If you’d rather deal with it yourself, spa chemicals and other household hazardous waste go to the Riverside County HHW program, and the shell is handled under CalRecycle landfill-diversion rules. But cutting a spa into cart-sized pieces is a full weekend with the right saw and a dumpster — which is where most folks decide to call us instead.

How We Remove a Hot Tub, Step by Step

The process is the same whether it’s a small plug-and-play tub or a built-in spa wrapped in flagstone. We keep it predictable so there are no surprises in your yard.

Sectioning a shell on site so it clears a tight side gate.

1Access check and firm price

We walk the route from the tub to the truck, measure the tightest gate, note any stairs or a second-story deck, and hand you a written price. Nothing gets touched until you say go.

2Power off, water out

We confirm the breaker is off and the tub is drained. If it’s hardwired with no plug, we ask that a licensed electrician disconnect it first. We don’t cut into live wiring.

3Cut it down to size

When a tub won’t come out whole, we section the shell right where it sits with a reciprocating saw, then pull the frame, pumps, and plumbing. We lay down protection so blades and edges never touch your patio or turf.

4Haul out and load

Every piece gets carried to the truck by hand. We watch your gates, fences, sprinkler heads, and landscaping the whole way out. This is the part homeowners most want to skip — and the part we’re built for.

5Sort, recycle, sweep

Back at the yard, metal frames, pumps, and wiring are pulled for scrap recycling and reusable covers set aside. Then we sweep your spot clean, so you’re looking at open patio — not a ring of grime and old caulk. Doing a bigger backyard reset? Pair it with a garage cleanout or demolition cleanup in the same visit.

How to Get Ready Before We Arrive

None of this is required for a quote, but doing it ahead of time keeps your job fast and your price low.
  • Drain the water. Use the spa’s drain spout or a submersible pump, and run the hose to gravel or lawn — not the driveway or storm drain.
  • Cut the power. Flip the breaker feeding the spa and unplug it. Hardwired units need an electrician to disconnect before removal day.
  • Clear the path. Move planters, grills, hoses, and patio furniture out of the route between the tub and where our truck can park.
  • Open the way in. Unlock side gates, and if the tub is fenced or decked in, let us know so we bring the right saws and enough crew.
  • Flag the tight spots. Low eaves, tight turns, HOA truck-access rules — tell us in advance so we plan for them instead of finding them.

Hot Tub Removal Temecula — FAQ

The questions Temecula and Murrieta homeowners ask us most before booking a spa haul-off.
How much does hot tub removal cost in Temecula?+
We price by the space your junk fills in the truck, not by the hour. A hot tub on its own usually lands between our quarter-load rate of $175 and a larger load once the shell is broken down. Tricky access, an in-ground install, or a second-story deck can raise it. You get a firm written price on site before any work starts, with no hidden fees.
Can you remove any type of hot tub — above-ground, in-ground, and built-in spas?+
Yes. We remove freestanding above-ground tubs, swim spas, and units that are partially buried or built into a deck, patio, or stonework. When a tub can't be carried out in one piece, our crew cuts it down on site and hauls the sections away, leaving your surrounding structures intact.
Do I need to drain the hot tub and disconnect the power before you arrive?+
Please drain the water ahead of time and switch off the breaker that feeds the spa. If the tub is plugged in, unplug it. If it's hardwired with no plug, have a licensed electrician disconnect it before we come out, since we don't perform electrical disconnections. Everything after that — the lifting, cutting, hauling, and cleanup — is on us.
Will the city or CR&R pick up my hot tub for free in Temecula?+
Temecula's franchised hauler, CR&R, gives residents a limited number of free bulky-item pickups each year, but those are for items like a couch or chair that a crew can lift by hand. An intact hot tub is too large and heavy for standard curbside bulky pickup, so it generally has to be dismantled first or hauled by a private service like ours.
How long does hot tub removal take?+
Most freestanding tubs with clear access are done in one to two hours from the time the crew arrives. In-ground, indoor, or built-in spas take longer because of the careful disassembly, but the vast majority of jobs finish the same day.
What happens to my hot tub after you haul it away — is it recycled?+
We sort the materials to keep as much as possible out of the landfill. Metal frames, pumps, and wiring go to local scrap recycling, reusable covers and parts are salvaged when they're in good shape, and the acrylic-and-foam shell is disposed of responsibly in line with California's landfill-diversion rules. It's the same approach we take on every haul.
Do you remove swim spas and Jacuzzi-brand hot tubs?+
Yes. Swim spas, Jacuzzi-brand tubs, Sundance, Hot Spring, Cal Spas, and the no-name units too — the brand doesn't change how we handle it. Swim spas are longer and heavier, so we plan the cut points and crew size around the size and where it sits, but the process is the same: drain, disconnect, section, haul, and sweep.
Can you get a hot tub out through a narrow side gate or over a fence?+
Usually, yes — tight access is the norm, not the exception. If the tub won't fit through the gate in one piece, we cut it down on site so the sections clear the opening. When there's truly no side access, we've hoisted pieces over a fence or block wall. Tell us about the gate width, stairs, or any raised deck when you call so we bring the right crew and tools.
Do you remove hot tubs from businesses, rental properties, and HOAs?+
Yes. We handle spa removal for landlords and property managers between tenants, HOAs clearing a common-area unit, gyms and short-term rentals, and homeowners prepping a house for sale. We can work around gate codes and access windows, and we'll email a written receipt for your records when the job's done.
Is there anything you can't take along with the hot tub?+
The spa itself, the cover, the steps, the surround, and any decking we pull — all fine. What we can't put in the same load is household hazardous waste: spa chemicals like chlorine and bromine, pool acid, and loose batteries. Those go to a Riverside County HHW facility. Set them aside and we'll point you to the right drop-off.
Do you offer same-day spa removal in Temecula and Murrieta?+
Often, yes. Call or text (951) 837-8072 in the morning and, if we have a truck in the area, we can frequently get a freestanding tub the same day. Built-in and swim-spa jobs that need a bigger crew are easiest to schedule a day or two out so the right team shows up.
What areas around Temecula do you serve for hot tub removal?+
We're based in Temecula and run this route weekly: Murrieta, Menifee, Hemet, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Winchester, French Valley, plus Fallbrook and Rainbow just south. Not sure you're in range? Call or text (951) 837-8072 with your address and we'll confirm.
