Furniture is the most common category of junk we haul out of Temecula and Murrieta homes. We take couches, sectionals, recliners, loveseats, dressers, armoires, bed frames, headboards, nightstands, bookshelves, dining tables, chairs, hutches, buffets, desks, office chairs, filing cabinets, cubicle panels, conference tables, and outdoor patio sets. Mattress Removal
Mattresses, box springs, adjustable bed bases, futons, and mattress toppers are items we remove daily. In California, the Used Mattress Recovery and Recycling Act (SB 254) created a statewide recycling program specifically because mattresses are one of the bulkiest and most commonly illegally dumped items in the state. Retailers are required to offer take-back when delivering a new mattress, but if you are not buying new — if you just need that old king-size gone — the program does not help you. That is where we come in. We carry the mattress out from whatever room it is in, load it, and route it to a Mattress Recycling Council collection point where steel springs, foam, cotton, and wood get separated for recycling. Appliances carry a $30 per-unit surcharge covering refrigerant recovery and metal recycling, and any load that requires carrying items up or down stairs adds $150 on loads up to one-half truck load or $300 on loads over one-half truck load. What We Cannot Take
There is a short list of items we cannot haul because California law requires them to be handled by licensed hazardous waste transporters with specialized equipment, manifests, and disposal permits. The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) regulates these materials, and handling them without the proper certification exposes both you and us to serious liability. Here is what we cannot accept:
Paint & Solvents
Latex paint, oil-based paint, spray cans, paint thinner, turpentine, and lacquer. These are classified as household hazardous waste in California. Riverside County takes them free at its household hazardous waste sites, and PaintCare stores take leftover house paint. Details below.
Hazardous Chemicals
Pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, automotive fluids (antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid), cleaning solvents, and any container with a hazardous materials warning label. These require disposal at a permitted hazardous waste facility.
Asbestos Materials
Asbestos-containing floor tiles, pipe insulation, popcorn ceiling material, and roofing felt from pre-1980 structures. Asbestos removal requires a licensed abatement contractor and must not be mixed with general construction debris.
Medical & Biohazard Waste
Needles, syringes, sharps, pharmaceutical waste, and biohazard materials require disposal through a medical waste transporter. California Health and Safety Code governs these materials separately from general solid waste.
Tires
Used tires are regulated separately under California's Waste Tire Program. Tire shops and auto shops will take them, usually for a small per-tire fee. We cannot accept tires in our loads. More on why below.
Propane Tanks & Compressed Gas
Full or partially full propane tanks, compressed gas cylinders, and fire extinguishers require specialized handling and cannot be mixed with general junk loads. Empty tanks with valves removed may be accepted — call to confirm.
The Tricky Ones: Tires and Paint
These two come up on the phone more than the rest of the restricted list put together, so here’s the long answer on each.
Tires
Tires aren’t hazardous waste, which is why people are surprised we turn them down. The rule is about hauling, not toxicity. California tracks used tires through CalRecycle’s waste tire hauler program: anyone moving ten or more at a time needs a hauler registration, a $10,000 surety bond, and a trip log, and can only deliver to an authorized facility. We’re not registered as a tire hauler, so tires stay off our trailer.
You can legally carry up to nine in your own vehicle. Most tire shops and auto shops around Temecula and Murrieta will take old tires for a small per-tire fee. The $1.75 California tire fee you paid on new tires funds the state program, not your drop-off, so expect to pay something. And don’t bother taking them to the county hazardous waste sites. Tires are on their do-not-accept list too.
Paint and Paint Cans
Leftover house paint goes back free through PaintCare, the program paint makers fund with a fee on every can sold in California. Latex, oil-based, primer, stain, varnish, and deck coatings all count. Most drop-off sites are paint and hardware stores, and they take up to five gallons a visit. The can has to be in its original container with the label on and the lid tight. Leaking, unlabeled, or empty cans get turned away.
Spray paint is where people trip up. Aerosols, thinner, and auto paint aren’t PaintCare products, and the county’s Murrieta drop-off yard won’t take aerosols either. Those go to the Lake Elsinore permanent facility on one of its first-Saturday dates. What you can’t do is toss any of it in the trash, pour it down a drain, or hand it to us.
Where the Restricted Items Go Locally
Riverside County runs two free drop-offs that cover most of what a Temecula or Murrieta garage turns up. Both are for county residents only, no business waste, and both are open on Saturdays only.
Murrieta ABOP and PaintCare yard
County Road Yard, 25315 Jefferson Avenue, Murrieta. Non-holiday Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ABOP stands for antifreeze, batteries, oil, and paint, and that’s the list: antifreeze, car and household batteries, used oil and filters, and latex or oil-based paint. No aerosols, propane, pool chemicals, pesticides, or tires. County page for the Murrieta yard.
Lake Elsinore permanent HHW facility
512 North Langstaff Street, Lake Elsinore. First Saturday of each month except January; 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. October through May, 7:00 a.m. to noon June through September. It takes everything the Murrieta yard does, plus aerosol cans, BBQ-size propane, pool chlorine, pesticides, cleaners, fluorescent tubes, sharps, and e-waste. The county limits you to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of household hazardous waste per trip, in containers no bigger than five gallons or 50 pounds each. Hours and dates change, so check the Riverside County household hazardous waste page or call (951) 486-3200 before you drive. Never set any of it at the curb or mix it in with general junk.
Illegal dumping fines start at $250 in California
Under California Penal Code Section 374.3, dumping waste on public or private property is a crime with fines starting at $250 for a first offense and climbing past $3,000 for repeat violations. Each day the waste sits can count as a separate offense. Using a licensed junk removal company eliminates this risk entirely.

What Actually Happens to Your Junk
One of the most common questions we get is whether everything just ends up in a landfill. It does not. Every load our crew hauls gets sorted at our yard before any of it reaches a final destination. That sorting process is the difference between responsible junk removal and a company that treats every item the same way regardless of condition or material.
Donations
Furniture, appliances, and household goods in usable condition go to local donation partners including Habitat for Humanity ReStore locations and charity thrift operations in the Temecula Valley. Usable clothing, kitchenware, electronics, and toys also get donated. We make the drop-off — you never have to load and drive to a donation center yourself.
Recycling
Metals (steel, aluminum, copper, iron) from appliances, furniture frames, and construction scrap go to scrap recycling processors. Mattresses go to Mattress Recycling Council collection points. E-waste goes to certified electronics recyclers. Clean wood, cardboard, and concrete get routed to the appropriate recycling or processing facility.
Landfill Diversion
Our goal on every load is to divert as much material from the landfill as possible. We sort metals from wood, separate recyclable materials from general waste, and flag usable items for donation before anything reaches a disposal facility. Only genuinely unsalvageable material — water-damaged, mold-contaminated, or structurally destroyed items — goes to a licensed landfill.
Responsible Disposal
Items that cannot be donated, recycled, or repurposed are disposed of at licensed solid waste facilities in Riverside County. We never dump illegally — not on roadsides, not in vacant lots, not in dumpsters that do not belong to us. Our licensing and insurance depend on handling disposal by the book.

How I’d handle a cleanout with a few restricted items
Pull the paint cans, chemicals, and tires out first and stack them by the garage door. We clear everything else in one trip, and before we pull out I’ll tell you which of the county sites takes each thing in that stack. You end up with one small Saturday drop-off in your own car instead of renting a truck for the whole pile.

We remove furniture, appliances, mattresses, construction debris, yard waste, electronics, hot tubs, exercise equipment, pianos, pool tables, sheds, trampolines, playsets, fencing, carpet, pallets, and general household and commercial junk. If it is not classified as hazardous waste under California DTSC regulations, we almost certainly take it. Text a photo to (951) 837-8072 if you are unsure.
Most junk removal companies, including Wild West, cannot legally haul hazardous materials: paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, asbestos-containing materials, medical waste, and compressed gas cylinders. These items require licensed hazardous waste transporters. Tires are also excluded under California's Waste Tire Program. Riverside County takes household hazardous waste free from residents at its Murrieta ABOP yard and Lake Elsinore facility.
There isn't one in Temecula. The closest public drop-off on the county's list is the CR&R Perris Transfer Station on Goetz Road in Perris, which sets its own rates, so call (951) 943-1991 first. The nearest landfills are El Sobrante in Corona, run by Waste Management, and the county's Lamb Canyon landfill near Beaumont. None of them take hazardous waste, and the county adds a surcharge if your load isn't tied down or covered. Check current hours at rcwaste.rivco.gov before you drive.
A little, yes. A few wheelbarrows of broken patio or a stack of old bricks can ride in a normal load. Bulk is a different story. Concrete and soil are so heavy that our trailer hits its weight limit long before it looks full, so a whole driveway or a yard of dirt usually comes out cheaper through an inert debris recycler or a roll-off bin rated for it, and those bill by the ton. Text a photo and a rough amount and we'll tell you which way costs less.
Both are free to get rid of. Most auto parts stores take back old car batteries, and many are CalRecycle certified used oil collection centers that accept up to five gallons of clean used oil and will pay you 40 cents a gallon if you ask. The county's Murrieta ABOP yard on Jefferson Avenue takes batteries, oil, filters, and antifreeze on non-holiday Saturdays from 9 to 2. Keep the oil separate from antifreeze or gas, or the center will turn it away.
Yes, and that describes most cleanouts we run. We load everything we can take, set the paint cans, chemicals, and tires in one spot where you can see them, and tell you which county site takes each one before we leave. You're left with one small drop-off in your own car instead of a rented truck. Keep that trip under the county's limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds.
Because the law puts them in different piles. A couch is ordinary solid waste, so any licensed hauler can take it to a landfill, a recycler, or a donation partner. Paint, pool chlorine, pesticides, and motor oil are household hazardous waste in California, and moving them for someone else takes hazardous waste transport paperwork and a permitted disposal chain that general junk haulers don't carry. The county runs free drop-off sites so residents can take that material in themselves.
Yes. Heavy furniture removal is one of our core services. We haul sectionals, sleeper sofas, solid-wood dressers, hutches, pool tables, pianos, and anything else that most people cannot move on their own. Our crew brings straps, blankets, and dollies and handles all the lifting, including items on second or third floors, in tight hallways, and through narrow doorways. Loads that require carrying items up or down stairs carry a stair surcharge, and we confirm it with you on site before anyone picks anything up.

Yes. We haul drywall, lumber, plywood, tile, concrete, brick, roofing shingles, flooring, stucco, and general demolition debris. We work with both homeowners doing DIY renovations and licensed contractors running larger projects. Recurring job-site pickups are available for active renovation sites in Temecula, Murrieta, and surrounding cities.
Yes. We remove refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, and window AC units. Refrigerant-containing appliances are routed to facilities with certified technicians for proper refrigerant recovery in compliance with EPA Section 608. Mattresses carry a $15 per-unit surcharge covering the state recycling fee.
Yes. We haul tree branches, brush, palm fronds, leaves, dead shrubs, sod, soil, railroad ties, landscape timbers, and general green waste. Yard waste goes to composting and mulching facilities rather than the landfill. This service is especially useful when your load exceeds what fits in your green barrel and your two free annual bulky pickups through CR&R are already used up.
